The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed the translation industry, introducing new paradigms that elicit both optimism and skepticism. In a multilingual nation like Nigeria, where translation serves as a vital tool for bridging communication gaps and fostering economic, political, and socio-cultural ties, the integration of AI-driven translation technologies presents both opportunities and challenges. This study aims to assess the current state of AI adoption in Nigerian translation processes, evaluate its impact on translation quality and efficiency, and propose strategies for effective integration. Guided by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Translation Process Research (TPR) framework, this research investigates the extent to which Nigerian translators have embraced AI-powered tools and the factors influencing their acceptance. Using an online survey, data were collected from professional translators, language service providers, and other stakeholders in the Nigerian translation industry. The findings reveal a slow and fragmented adoption of AI-driven translation technologies, largely due to concerns about accuracy, ethical implications, and a lack of adequate training. While AI tools offer substantial benefits in enhancing productivity and reducing costs, many Nigerian translators remain hesitant to fully integrate them into their workflows. The study concludes that AI has the potential to revolutionise translation processes in Nigeria, but its successful adoption requires addressing key challenges, including technological literacy, quality assurance, and ethical considerations. It recommends targeted training programmes, policy formulation, and industry-wide collaboration to facilitate a seamless transition towards AI-enhanced translation practices.
